1SubML does support alias patterns, e.g. the as p in let (x, y) as p = (1, 2);. However, unlike the original plan, they are only allowed after record or tuple patterns, since it was unclear what the semantics should be for variant patterns, and it seemed like record patterns are the only case where alias patterns are actually useful anyway.
